Troutman Pond – May 1 2017

There is a small pond in Troutman, NC that I used to fish at when I was a teen.

A friend of mine at the time lived right next to it.. and we would spend a lot of time there fishing, swimming, diving (SCUBA, me)…

The picture above is what the pond used to look like then..And looks like again on May 1, 2017…

There was a floating dock.

There was a small, sunken, wooden boat in the deepest part of the pond (the left area of the pic above).

……

In 2015, I visited this pond for the first time since 1995.

It looked rough… It was almost completely dried up.. The pond was about 1/3’d the size it is in the image above. The wooden boat in the deepest end of the pond.. was on LAND!!!

in 2015 and 2016 I fished the pond a few times.. and it produced an incredible amount of fish.. I think I have even posted about it..

I have good memories here… From when I was a teen.. and from since I have come back..

In the summer, as a teen, I used to hunt snakes here… Not to kill them, but just to catch them…

I can’t even count the amount of Copperheads, Eastern Chain Kingsnakes and Black Rat Snakes I have caught around this pond, back in the day…

My first “spinner bait” bass was caught here.. It was one evening in the summer.. probably in 1990. A memory that hooked me for good on spinner baits. There is nothing better than the sound of summer (bugs and all that) and a spinner tearing up the water… it’s like silence… until that Bass sucks it in…

Anyway.. On this day.. I was shocked to see the pond full again.. The water level must be up 6 feet, at least.

As is usual for this pond.. the second cast produced a decent 2lb(ish) Bass…

But there is really no place to fish now.. All those trees to the left in the image.. I stood under last year.. now they touch the water.. Or are under it…

But it is a good thing.. it is reborn.
