Colonel Francis Beatty Park

Colonel Francis Beatty Park

My first fishing visit.

This is a beautiful park in Mathews, NC, and as you can see by the image above, the lake is pretty good size. My understanding is that it is roughly 20 acres in size and max depth is 16-18 ft. Should be lots of Crappie in there.

I fished all over the lake, walking about 3/4 of it. There is a floating dock for launching kayaks or a canoe, and the people who were fishing on the dock seemed to be doing well. They were using floats and live bait.

For me, this lake did not produce on this trip. I lost one after it jumped and landed another that probably was in the 1 - 1.25 lb range. The one that I lost was about the same size. One was hooked on a Rooster Tail and the other on my new favorite worm, the Roboworm in “Bold Bluegill” color. These things are amazing and I can’t even count the number of large NC bass I caught on these last year.

I do hope to get back to this park, maybe with a kayak and a little more time so I can do some serious fishing.
